Project – Orsted’s Carnegie Road Project

Orsted’s Carnegie Road project marks the renewable energy company’s first stand-alone, large-scale battery energy storage installation. The 20MW system plays a vital role in supporting grid stability and optimising renewable generation, complementing Orsted’s existing portfolio of wind assets.

The installation enhances the operational efficiency of the nearby 90MW Burbo Bank offshore wind farm, helping to balance production, store excess generation, and deliver grid services during periods of high demand.

As a key step in Orsted’s strategy to integrate battery storage with renewable generation, Carnegie Road demonstrates the value of large-scale storage in supporting the UK’s transition to a more flexible, low-carbon energy system.
